Stroll round Portland

Well it's been a bit of an epic but I'm gradually managing to sort through all the photos of last weekend. There were over 1000! no really, we had three cameras with us. Oliver's was the swishest , some sort of Canon, very fancy! Not strictly his, on loan from his work. Tony and I have both got Panasonic Lumix, mine FZ45 his FZ150.
It was truly a photo fest.
Anyhow ENOUGH of this geekery.
Back to the facts.
Such an amazing place.
Saturday up early to walk around the coastal path. This is us at the bottom.
First challenge, climbing the coast path
Let me tell you that is one very steep climb.
I needed a Fisherman's friend to help me recover!
But that view is well worth it.

Our guide for the day.
The lovely Heather.

Ably assisted by the equally lovely Oliver.

Our first stop was

Lots of interesting things to explore.

There was an area for students to practise.
I left my mark of course.

Back on the coast path and very high.
We watched this fisherman from the top of the cliff,
he was just a speck with the naked eye.

And they were amazing cliffs.
So high!

Our guides worked well as a team and knew exactly where we were going all the time.
Hmmm which way now Oliver?

They found Portland Bill Lighthouse.
Just in time for lunch.

After a delicious fish and chip lunch we set off again.
Although it was sunny it was very hazy.

Looks like we're on the moon doesn't it.

Oliver on top of the world!
This side of the island is not what you'd call pretty but it's amazing to see the effects of mans activity on the landscape.
When you think of all the buildings made of Portland stone the enormity of the quarrying is mind blowing!

Down off the cliffs to a charming little Church Ope Cove, a pretty sheltered.
Time for some relaxing  and some serious stone tower building.

Crystal clear water.
Absolutely freezing, it huuuurt.

After the beach we walked back across the island, anxious to get back to Chesil for the sunset. So it was back down the hill and home for a cuppa.
Before cameras in hand, coats on and out onto the beach.

Heather caught the sun!

Not the clearest sunset, but lots of fun!
Gorgeous pebbles and lovely light.

Hunger drove us back indoors, a rather delicious curry.

Some wonderful birthday cake,
made by my Mum

And a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday!
We finished the evening with a game of pebble poker

We had a gorgeous time so relaxing.
So lucky to be able to spend time with my wonderful family, such special days and perfect memories always to be treasured!

It's ready......I think

That's right after much umming and ahhing and writing and rewriting my
Sail Away Boat pattern is finally ready!
I'm very excited and a little bit nervous, what if I've just written gobbledegook?
So I'm just going to put it out there and see what happens.

You can find it here!

That's right on ravelry!
That is sooo exciting, a little place to put my own patterns.

Hope you like it.

Literally hundreds!
Photos that is.
What a wonderful weekend we did have.
Portland Dorset,
brilliant place.
This is the view of Chesil beach.

Gorgeous isn't it.
But OMG what a climb and first thing in the morning!!!!
Lots of hiking, lots of sunshine, lots of laughter, couldn't be better.
Returned home with brown faces and sore muscles, those hills, blimey we're not used to them!
Can't wait to show you some more once I've had a little sort through.

I'll be back later in the week hopefully with some hooky news too

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend in the sunshine.
See you later

Little bit excited!

Apart from the fact that
Spring is springing!
This weekend see us heading to Dorset for a weekend away.
The reason, well it's actually my Lovely Man's birthday on Saturday.( I know we celebrated last weekend too, but he is very special, and also 50!)
So off we go tomorrow armed with wellies waterproofs, you know the routine.
Oh, and two lovely people, namely lovely Heather and lovely Oliver!!!
They'll be lots of walking, exploring, photography, relaxing and maybe a visit to a local hostelry!
The rest of the gang are holding the fort, cat feeding etc.
Everything's ready.
Yip, Yip, Yipee!

So I'll be back after the weekend, hopefully with tales of adventuring and discovering!
Have a great weekend
Love ♥Sue♥

All done!

Just found this post in my drafts, what a muppet! Guess it was a busier week than I realised

Phew, all done now!
This was the scene yesterday morning.

Looks big doesn't it.

Treacle was NOT pleased.
Where's my basket gone?

This room hasn't been empty, properly empty for years!
It's like moving in all over again.
Anyway, this is how I left it at 9am.
Ready for the big reveal,

Gorgeous isn't it

Look at the wonderfulness of it!

So clean and fresh and beautiful!
with the furniture in

Altogether now

Yeah that's right
Howard's already at home on his chair.
A great refurbishment, one of our best.
So onward and upward, next project.
The bathroom.
But not just yet.
Think I shall be sitting and drinking tea for a little while first.
At my table.
In my beautiful dining room.

Sixteen round the table on Saturday night, all family!
Happy Birthday indeed.
So the preparations went on most of the day,
It's a long time since I've spent a day pottering in my kitchen, it was lovely!
Now I did intend to photograph things as I went along, but I kept forgetting!
Anyway here are some of the goodies.

 Ciabatta bread.

Lemon curd, this was the filling for a delicious lemon sponge.

Avocado salsa was delicious with the chilli

And chocolate cheesecake (squizz your eyes up and it looks a bit better!)
All very favourably received, well you can tell by the scraping of plates and lack of leftovers!
No birthday photos as they were taken by other people, but trust me, we had a blast and my Lovely Man really enjoyed his evening! (even though he said he didn't want a fuss)
It's so wonderful to spend time with the people you love,
we feel really lucky and blessed!
So moving onto Sunday,
Beautiful flowers.

Hugs and kisses, giggly phone call from Heather.
Then today a belated Mothers day pressie from Jacob
This is what I found when I got home from work.

Cup of tea, lovely.
Pancake batter, lovely.
Raspberry and cherry sauce, delicious!
How special.
I love my children, they always find unique and wonderful ways to tell me they love me!
Hope you feel loved and special too!

Can I go outside now?

Finally the weather has broken and it's beginning to feel like
Do you feel that strong urge to get outside?
I do and when I'm stuck in work all day I kind of get twitchy and slightly crazy.
But walking here by the sea restores my sanity.

This was Wednesday

A fog hung over the common giving everything a haze.

The boats in the harbour were hidden.
But it was lovely.
And then as I headed for home along the path I found the Blackthorn all in bloom.

Just wonderful delicate blossoms

dancing in the hazy sunlight

they are so pretty and full of detail, I love the little stamens!

It was a lovely break from the hustle and bustle of the day.
I always feel restored after a mooch across the common!
Anyway important matters are in hand this weekend.
A Birthday party!
For my Lovely Man
On the menu

And mmmmmmm

All taken from here, such a good book,
full of delicious recipes and Delia's fail safe instructions.
I've just rediscovered this book after my mum found this one in a charity shop (smells of mothballs, but hey!)
My first copy left with the first Mr Webb if you catch my drift!!!
Anyway moving on, it's a great book and I'm glad to have it back in my collection!

So busy, busy, will be whizzing around town on my bike collecting ingredients this afternoon.
If you're in Portsmouth look out I'll be going very fast!!
Have a great weekend  I'll be back with some hooky news and birthday pictures very soon.
